When people think about real estate, they often think about property values, market trends and beautifully presented homes. But for me, the true value of a neighbourhood has always been found in its people.
It's the familiar faces greeting one another on morning walks. It's neighbours looking out for each other. It's the sense of comfort that comes from knowing your children can ride their bicycles within the estate. And, perhaps most importantly, it's the individuals working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our communities safe.
The security guards stationed at our estate entrances and all over the Lonehill, Beverley and Pineslopes suburbs are often the first people to welcome us home, and the last to wish us well as we leave for the day. They stand watch through early mornings, long shifts, unpredictable weather and public holidays. They recognise residents by name, notice when something doesn't seem quite right, and provide reassurance simply through their presence.
Yet, despite the important role they play, their contribution can often go unnoticed.
Briefing the team ahead of a monthly recognition.
That is why I am incredibly proud to be involved in a community initiative alongside Fidelity Services Group and local partners that seeks to shine a light on these everyday heroes.
Through our Guard Recognition Programme, we celebrate the individuals who consistently go above and beyond in serving our communities across Lonehill and Beverley. Residents and estate managers have the opportunity to acknowledge guards who demonstrate professionalism, kindness, vigilance and an unwavering commitment to the people they protect.
Each month, a deserving guard is recognised for their exceptional service. More than just an award, it is an opportunity to say thank you — to remind them that their efforts matter, and that the communities they safeguard appreciate the work they do. At the end of the year, these monthly recipients are honoured once again as part of our annual Guard of the Year celebration.
"Real estate has never simply been about buying and selling homes. It's about investing in the people who make these places feel safe, welcoming and connected."
For me, this initiative perfectly reflects what community means. As an area specialist in Lonehill, Beverley and Pineslopes, I have the privilege of working within these communities every day. I don't just market homes here — I experience the same streets, parks, estate entrances and local businesses that my clients do.
Supporting the people who quietly support all of us is one small way of giving back to the communities that have trusted me with some of life's biggest milestones.
To every guard who arrives before sunrise, remains vigilant long after dark, and helps create the peace of mind we so often take for granted: thank you. You are an important part of what makes our communities feel like home.
